The Trust outsources expert Health and Safety support which comprises the following:
For the Health and Safety Officers:
- Support in capacity to complete statutory documentation eg site risk assessments, review of Fire Risk Assessments
- Half termly face-to-face on-site support to discuss Health and Safety issues or concerns
- Periodic monitoring of statutory compliance checks
- Year-round phone and email support with Health and Safety adviser
- Immediate support to carry out accident investigation for serious injuries
- Construction Design Management Regulation support in fulfilling the role as the client for building and construction works
- When “the call” comes, Ofsted pre site inspection from a Health and Safety perspective
For the Headteachers:
- Support in understanding the duties connected to being the responsible person for Health and Safety and Fire management in school
- Practical support in carrying out this role in relation to reviewing associated documentation and surveys and monitoring progress on required actions
- On request, updates on the key risks and management control required for SLT/Governors
- Provision of school specific training slides for Headteacher to deliver to staff and information sessions. Occasional training sessions dependant on risk level
- Competent support “on tap” to refer staff to when Headteacher not confident to advise staff who have queries or concerns
- Providing of induction sessions and on-going support to Site Managers new to the role
- Confidence that competent person is monitoring Health and Safety management on site and communicating key risks and non-compliance where required
- Mentor in improving Health and Safety in schools understanding from a Headteacher’s role perspective
- Year-round phone and email support with Health and Safety adviser
For the Trustees / Governors:
- On request, Termly update on key risks to school and risk management
- Annual site visit with Governors to discuss implementation of Health and Safety related policies and site walk
- On request, and where agreed / required with Four Cs central staff, attendance at Governors’ meeting
- Year-round phone and email support with Health and Safety adviser for communicating any concerns whilst ensuring boundaries for roles and responsibilities are maintained
For the Pupils / Students / Parents:
- Where required, information is provided to school for communication with parents to enhance children and young people’s level of safety eg allergy control
- Confidence in knowing that competent support is available to schools for managing young people Health and Safety risks
- Specific support available to school staff to manage young people’s pre-existing medical needs from a Health and Safety perspective
- If serious accidents occur in school involving young people, parents have confidence that competent support is available to the school staff to review the accident through investigation to ensure immediate, underlying and root causes are identified and rectified where appropriate
